Pack & Passel
A downloadable game
Sometimes all a person really wants to do is have a fruitful wander in the field. A day of collecting* plants, minerals, and viscera to take home and craft something from the resulting bits and pieces. Sometimes what a person wants on their wall isn't a collection of armor or weapons, but rather a dazzling assortment of potions and unguents. They want shining bottles and smoking vials; substances useful or dangerous, and very often both.
Pack & Passel is a solo journaling game made to supplement nice walks, cozy hours, and other games. The end goal of the game is to create a gathering & crafting journal, along with an inventory of the resulting items and their effects. All you need is the game pamphlet, a pack of cards, a journal, and something to write with.
There's four main stages to the game:
- gathering items in the field
- identifying what's been collected
- processing them into something usable
- storing the results in an inventory at the back of your journal
With pamphlet-size instructions and item generating tables, gameplay is potentially very fast for taking simple notes or much slower, with the potential to add small stories and lore to journal entries.
This game can easily be played by itself or as a supplement to other games. The prompts are setting neutral in order to fit different genres and eras. For those unable or nor in the mood to go outdoors to play, there's an additional table dedicated to generating items for indoor play.
*No items are actually collected. Please don't collect irl items unless you know what you're doing and it's legal in your area.
